It was a horror Christmas for Albert Verlinde in 2013: the cheating of his mischievous husband Onno Hoes was widely reported in the press. How much fun they all had. The man who unraveled the secrets of Dutch celebrities for years as the founder of RTL Boulevard, now had his turn. The media storm was truly unprecedented.
Hot Onno
Many celebrities enjoyed putting Albert through the wringer. Evert Santegoeds even posted a large photo of Onno’s profile on the dating app Grindr on his Private page. A naked photo that is! “Mayor Hoes… without chain of office!” read the headline. The gloating didn’t stop.
It only got worse, because it didn’t stop with toyboy Ruud Schepers. Eventually, another toyboy showed up, Robbie Hasselt, and he decided to secretly film Onno during their secret date. He received a camera from Rutger Castricum and it was an instant hit. Onno: “You suck so well too. You have a very ugly mouth. A g**le p**p mouth.”
Not even a year
How long have Albert and Onno been apart? “I think less than a year or so,” he now says in the podcast The Lion Loots On. So they got back together quite quickly. “Only then did we no longer feel like announcing it. In any case, I think it makes yourself a little more important.”
He continues: “We were like, we’re just excited to be together again. We have now been together for 31 years, one year of which we were more distant from each other.”
Overloaded
Why did Onno keep opening his fly when Albert wasn’t there? “I think we just overloaded each other. People sometimes said that: two of those careers in one relationship, that’s quite tough. And Boulevard and a theater company and the mayor of Maastricht. It was quite a lot that came into our household.”
He continues: “We also wanted to be there for each other everywhere. You can’t keep that up. It boiled over for a while and the whole of the Netherlands was able to witness this, but we are having a really good time.”
Open relationship
Fellow guest Hans Kesting then asks an intimate question: “Did you have a monogamous relationship or did you have an open relationship? Or do you have an open relationship?”
Albert: “Ehh, well…”
Hans: “If I may ask.”
Albert: “Yes, you can ask that, but I’m not going to answer that. We have a good relationship. Hahaha.”
Open or closed
Hans: “Is it closer to open or closed?”
There is laughter in the studio. Hans imitates the RTL Boulevard tune: “Tadadadada-da.”
