It was one of the exciting things in FC Barcelona’s last 2-1 win in the league: former Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski demonstratively refused to shake his young teammate Lamine Yamal’s hand. Now the 16-year-old reacted.
Lamine Yamal doesn’t want to make too much of the incident between him and star center forward Robert Lewandowski in the game against Deportivo Alavés.
“He’s already explained it: There are things that happen on the pitch. I get along well with him, there’s no problem in the dressing room,” replied the Barca talent after the Spanish national team’s 3-1 away win against Cyprus at “Teledeporte”.
What happened? Former Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski was recently upset with his teammate Lamine Yamal in FC Barcelona’s league game after he shot instead of playing when the score was 1-1.
Next goal for Spain: Barca talent ticks off controversy
When Lewy then scored the opening goal with a penalty, the youngster wanted to high-five his strike partner. However, the Polish national team captain pointedly refused to shake hands and also said a few words to Yamal.
After the alleged dispute caused a stir in the Spanish press, Lewandowski sounded a conciliatory tone last Monday. “I talk to him often during the game, help him and give him advice,” said Lewandowski.
He has long since put the incident behind him anyway. In the third international match of his career, Yamal scored his second goal for Spain in Limassol. With the early 1-0 in the fifth minute he put his team on the road to victory.
“I’m very happy that I can wear this jersey and I feel very comfortable thanks to my colleagues. They help me on the pitch,” explained the goalscorer afterwards.
