A big setback for FC Volendam. The Eel Farmers lost to Excelsior Maassluis in the first round of the KNVB Cup, 0-1. For the second division team, Redouan Omar Ouali scored in the twentieth minute.
Without Calvin Twigt, FC Volendam played in the strongest possible line-up. Whereby trainer Matthias Kohler placed basic debutant Bram van Driel in the place of the Jong Oranje international. Furthermore, the injured players Benaissa Benamar and Oskar Buur were also missing from the number seventeen of the premier league.
1-0
Halfway through the first half things went terribly wrong for the Volendam team when the home team took the lead through a goal by Redouan Omar Ouali. The home team’s left midfielder was the final stop after a quick breakout.
FC Volendam then had the necessary opportunities, but attempts by Ould-Chick, Zeefuik, De Haan and Mühren lacked precision. And so the amateurs from Maassluis converted to the next round.

Robin Maulun still came in at FC Volendam. These were only the first minutes for the French attacking midfielder who signed for Volendam last summer.
Red numbers
This is the next blow for FC Volendam. Kohler’s men are already having a hard time in the competition. After twelve games, the Volendam team is in a relegation spot. And off the field it emerged today that the club from the fishing village is in the red. The 2022/2023 financial year ended with a loss of three million euros.
After the international break, the next match awaits FC Volendam. On Sunday, November 26, AZ is the opponent in Alkmaar.

Backhaus; Payne (Douiri/46), Mirani, Flint, Cox, De Haan, Zeefuik, Van Driel (Plat/64); Ould-Chikh (Kuol/46), Mühren (Maulun/79), Johnson (Booth/64)
