Urs Fischer has to go. Just a few days ago he had the full backing of his president. Why did Dirk Zingler change his mind so quickly? A comment from sports editor Oliver Knaack.
It was just ten days ago Urs Fischer one of the best coaches in the Bundesliga. And the club would be ill-advised to send him home. That’s what the Union President said Dirk Zingler about his long-time coach. Past. Now Zingler has separated from the most successful coach in Union history.
The backing was standard in the industry. But so does the half-life of these sentences.
Zingler sees the club, his club. A medium-sized company with more than 160 million in sales. And if he were relegated, he would have to lay off more than just one employee. Numerous jobs in Köpenick would have to be cut. Zingler has now lived up to this responsibility by separating from Fischer.
But what about manager Oliver Ruhnert? He put together the team that doesn’t work with lots of Champions League millions. But not a single newcomer was really convincing.
This is reminiscent of Hertha and Preetz
In the past, Ruhnert has made a lot out of a little money. Brought in many players who made promotion from the 2nd league to the Champions League possible. Now he had a lot of money at his disposal. But success remains elusive. That somehow reminds me of Hertha and Michael Preetz. He was good even when he had little money. He couldn’t do anything with the Windhorst millions and regularly reached for the wrong shelf. Brought in expensive players who brought nothing. And the club crashed into the second division.
Zingler absolutely wants to prevent that. And therefore Fischer had to go. Ruhnert is allowed to stay. Let’s see how long.
