Angela de Jong cheers for Khalid & Sophie’s ear washing: ‘Hallelujah’

Angela de Jong thinks it’s great that Khalid Kasem and Sophie Hilbrand have been put on the spot by farmer politician Caroline van der Plas. “Hallelujah, I would almost say.”

The early NPO 1 talk show Khalid & Sophie is getting more and more color in the cheeks: the presenters do not shy away from showing the real BNNVARA sound and that is of course also what our diverse broadcasting system is intended for. It led to a spicy confrontation with studio guest Caroline van der Plas in last night’s episode.

Fake Khalid

Caroline finds it not done how concerned residents of the Budels asylum seeker center are depicted in a column by Khalid & Sophie. Pointing her fingers, she attacks the duo: “I think it’s terrible – seriously – that you are showing Budel this way. You have never been to Budel.”

Angela de Jong thinks that’s great. The opinion diva has her entire column in it today A.D dedicated to. She thinks Khalid Kasem and Sophie Hilbrand are very fake. “It wasn’t my intention to make fun of the man. No of course not. What makes you think that?”

Hallelujah

Angela then lists the reasons why she believes the intention was to embarrass that man. In particular, the question Khalid asks after the item says it all: “This is apparently the image of asylum seekers in a certain part of the Netherlands. Does that scare you?”

Esther Ouwehand responds as desired. “But fortunately there was Caroline van der Plas,” says Angela. “Hallelujah, I would almost say. (…) There sat the old, combative Caroline again, the woman who does not allow herself to be messed with in the countryside. She reacted furiously.”

Ear washing

It is very good that Khalid and Sophie are put in their place, Angela thinks. “In an unequivocal argument, she did not gently wash the ears of the Amsterdam duo.”

According to her, it is a perfect example of the gap between the Randstad and the countryside. “She deserved a standing ovation for it. Or at least a thunderous applause. But yes, the studio was in Amsterdam. So then you will know.”

Way too right

What do they think about it in Amsterdam? There they think Khalid & Sophie bow too much to the right. “Apparently the editors of Khalid & Sophie wanted to avoid the accusation of ‘left-wing mainstream media’ with all their might,” writes TV critic André Nientied in the city newspaper Parool.

What does he think of Caroline’s explosion? Populist. “With this, Van der Plas won souls outside the Randstad.”
