Finland’s new Eurovision Song Contest, The Rasmus, celebrated throughout the night.
The Rasmus, who won the new music competition, gathered in the lobby of a hotel in Turku the day after the victory. Or almost the entire The Rasmus, guitarist Emppu Suhosta does not appear anywhere, although the interview period is about to begin.
– Has it been called? bassist Eero Heinonen asks.
Come third in UMK Bess enters the lobby.
– You’re really tough Mimmi, you joke was good, The Rasmus soloist Lauri Ylönen praises.
Bess is taken from the words and praises The Rasmus reciprocally.
– I don’t realize I got on the same stage with you.
There’s a little screaming outside when dozens of Blind Channel fans know their idols are in the hotel.
Coffee and a pile of muffins await you in The Rasmusta’s office.
– Jess, Lauri sighs.
Emppu is not seen or heard, so the interview is done without him.
– Our band’s biggest rock star is gone. I have time to play one song. It was a short wash, drummer Aki Hakala smirk.
The band seems quite cheerful even though there is a victory celebration in the back until dawn. The Rasmus celebrated together with the Blind Channel and their loved ones.
– Pretty small party. We found a fun party place, a little music playing there. Awesome evening. Or it went until morning, Lauri says.
Lauri says he returned to his hotel room in the early hours of the morning.
– I started making a new song at four in the morning. Oii’s feeling and energy are in place, Lauri says.
He will head to Nashville for the rest of the week, where the making of the songs will continue as a musician Desmond Childin with. An experienced Desmond Child was doing the same Jezebelsongs.
– That’s where things start. This is wonderful, Lauri says and looks happy.
He has hard times behind him, both in the band and in his private life. Spouse Katriina Mikkola got four miscarriages. Finally in October the family was born To Oliver little sister Ever Marlene.

Until a year ago, the entire The Rasmus was falling apart.
– I seriously had to think of a contingency plan for life. I wonder if The Story of The Rasmus is here, Aki says.
In the end, the original member Pauli Rantasalmi left the band. The departure had been in the air for a long time.
– It is a scary feeling when it feels like the band is getting out of hand, there is no more control or team spirit. It had been an important asset for the band. It had always been nice and good to be in the band, but when it started to change. Then crown on top of it. The band was at a break-up point, and when Pauli left, Lauri said.
Living with band members around the world did not ease the situation. The plight lasted almost half a year until the situation changed. Lauri got the idea for the song Jezebel, contacted Desmond Child, The Rasmus got into UMK and was invented to ask Emppu as a guitarist.
– It feels like we’re intact as a band, the four of us. We’ve tuned in to our peak, it’s light, and now we’re just letting go, Lauri says.

Tip for the Blind Channel
The celebration and contact with Blind Channel has been going on for a long time. In interviews, members of the Blind Channel have said how they have admired a Finnish band that has been successful in the world.
– Joel (BC soloist) said amusingly that he was still eating sand in the sandbox while we were on the lists, Aki laughs.

The Blind Channel has given The Rasmus tips on Eurovision. The Rasmus, on the other hand, has reminded us of the importance of appreciating getting one hit, even the last one.
– You have to enjoy it and be proud until the end. Many bands may hate their hits and may not play them, like Nirvana, Lauri says.
– Or a good old Rasmus! We were left FFF-Falling out of the set for five years. Like hell, Aki wonders.
At the time, The Rasmus was trying to be “a little rockier,” according to Ak.
– My girl asked about that song that Dad, is this the little squirrel music, Aki laughs.
The Rasmus grew as a band, more confidence came and FFF-Falling was put back on the set list. This was also told by The Rasmus to the Blind Channel.
Lauri and Aki talk a lot, really a lot, through the interview. Eero sometimes comments in a few sentences. Yle’s representative who was following the interview says that the interview time is coming to an end.
– Hey, you should speak in shorter sentences in the next interview, a representative of the record company smiles.
Finally, The Rasmus says that although they are now Finland’s visa representatives at Eurovision, they have been representing Finland in the world in their own way for twenty years. They have talked about Finland in interviews and taken the image of Finland to the world.
– This is a great country, there are great people here. We will continue to follow the same line, Aki says.
