The House of Representatives has adopted a motion to increase child benefit additionally in 2024. €250 million has been made available for this purpose. Next year, the child benefit will increase by a maximum of € 21.53 extra per child. This increase is separate from the regular indexation of child benefit. The final amount will be announced in mid-December.
Extra child benefit as of January 1, 2024
The amount of child benefit depends on the number of children and their age. The increase per age group is as follows:
- 0 to 5 years: € 15.07
- 6 to 11 years: € 18.30
- 12 to 17 years: €21.53
It is expected that the final child benefit will be several euros higher. Twice a year, child benefit moves in line with price developments. As a result, it will be announced in mid-December what the final amount will be as of January 1, 2024.
It does not matter how high your income is for child benefit. That is why all parents receive the higher amount. They do not have to do anything for this, the increased amount will be paid out automatically.
Payout
The SVB pays out the child benefit at the end of the quarter. The payment of the higher amount will take place in the first week of April 2024.
