Fortuna Sittard loses exciting match from Cambuur | 1Limburg

Fortuna Sittard lost 2-1 to SC Cambuur in Leeuwarden in an exciting match. The men of Sjors Ultee took the lead in the 20th minute with a goal from Duarte.

Fortuna Sittard handed out a few pinpricks in the first minutes of the match. Mats Seuntjens tried to score with a heel, but was offside and Martin Angha was also called back when he tried to head in a free kick by George Cox.

possession
SC Cambuur had most of the ball in the initial phase, but shots at Yanick van Osch’s goal were not forthcoming. Zian Flemming’s header from a George Cox corner went wide of Sonny Stevens’ goal. A pass back to goalkeeper Van Osch was too short for striker Tom Boere and the Fortuna goalie then took a swipe from Issa Kallon.

Fortune ahead
In the twentieth minute Fortuna took the lead when Deroy Duarte headed a cross from Mickaël Tirpan into the Frisian goal. Shortly afterwards SC Cambuur was close to the equalizer, but Calvin Mac-Intosch headed wide. After half an hour of play, Fortuna Sittard seemed to double the lead. A corner from George Cox came through Zian Flemming to Charlison Benschop, who worked the ball into the Frisian goal. However, the VAR intervened because apparently a violation had been committed.

equalizer
A few minutes later the ball was in the goal of Yanick van Osch and it was 1-1. Tom Boere tapped a low cross from Patrick Joosten against the ropes.
Fortuna Sittard seemed taken aback after Benschop’s rejected goal, but recovered in the final phase. Mats Seuntjens tried to pass goalkeeper Stevens with a placed shot from the edge of the penalty area, but the closing post neutralized the shot.

Second half
Shortly after the start of the second half, it took a lot of effort for Yanick van Osch to stop a free kick by Robin Maulun. The pace then picked up, creating danger on both sides. A swaying free ball from Maulun landed on the post via Van Osch and Dimitrios Siovas hit the crossbar on the other side. Halfway through the second half Tom Boere appeared in front of Yanick van Osch, but he headed the ball into the hands of the Fortuna goalkeeper.

Fortune behind
Fifteen minutes before the end, SC Cambuur led 2-1 when Robin Maulun Mitchel Paulissen served custom and Tom Boere was able to walk in the ball. Sjors Ultee then exchanged Mickaël Tirpan and Ben Rienstra for Paul Gladon and Jordan Botaka in an attempt to get one more point out of the fire. George Cox shot the ball over the goal from the box and shortly before the end, Doke Smidt took a shot from Paul Gladon off the line with an overhead kick.

Fortuna then did everything they could to equalize, but in the end had to return home with a 2-1 loss.
