Ugly scenes at the Formula 1 race in Mexico: Shortly after local hero Sergio Pérez’s starting accident, a fan of the Red Bull driver’s fuses blew.
As can be seen in a video that circulated on social media shortly after the incident, the perpetrator attacked two Ferrari fans sitting in the stands and suddenly beat them. It is unclear whether there may have been provocations beforehand. Only the courageous intervention of another spectator brought the thug down. He put the fan in a headlock and ended the attack.
The incident occurred immediately after takeoff. Sergio Pérez caused an accident that sent his Red Bull into the air and caused him to retire early. The Mexicans were 100 percent to blame, as they simply gave Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc no space and gave in, even though the Monegasque was next to him in the curve.
The thug was then handed over to security forces and, according to as yet unconfirmed reports, given a lifelong ban from the track.
Formula 1 promotes “Racepect” after US incidents
Shortly before the Mexican Grand Prix, Formula 1 specifically launched the hashtag “Racepect” on social media. This was intended to promote fair treatment and respect for one another.
This was made necessary, among other things, by the scenes at the US Grand Prix a week ago, when Max Verstappen was booed by numerous Pérez fans present.
In Mexico there were also whistles and boos after the race, especially for Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. Apparently many fans blamed him for the starting accident. Pérez was forced to make a statement on social media after the race.
Here the Red Bull driver explained that it was “not Charles’ fault. It was simply a racing accident.”
