Erling Haaland won the 191st Manchester derby for City against local rivals United. The Norwegian national player ensured a clear 3-0 (1-0) victory for coach Pep Guardiola’s team at the Red Devils on Sunday with his ten and eleven goals this season and an assist. Champions City are in third place in the English Premier League, United remain eighth.
The Citizens once again showed their superiority. But it was only a penalty after a hold on Rodri that gave them the lead. Haaland sank confidently. Coach Erik ten Hag’s hosts had their best opportunity in stoppage time in the first half: Scott McTominay was denied by goalkeeper Ederson. United keeper André Onana made a brilliant save from Haaland a short time later.
In the second half, Onana had no chance: Haaland easily headed in after a perfect pass from Bernardo Silva. The ex-Bundesliga professional was also involved in the third goal. After the City professionals were able to pass the ball to each other for almost three minutes, Phil Foden pushed a pass from Haaland over the line to make it 3-0 (80th). For the Skyblues it was the fourth victory in the last five city derbies (to the balance sheet).
