A curious goal by Jesse Boertien of LTC resulted in the second goal for LTC and ultimately meant the final blow for Noordscheschut: 3-0. Thanks to the victory, LTC is now (co) leader of the second division J of Saturday football
Jesse Boertien was beaming from ear to ear until well after the game because of his exceptional goal against Noordscheschut. With the score 1-0 in favor of the Assen team, the blocked midfielder haphazardly cleared a ball just past the halfway line. To the surprise of everyone and certainly also of Boertien himself, the ball fluttered in a beautiful arc in the direction of the enemy goal.
Goalkeeper Wiebe Zinger of Noordscheschut had not counted on Boertien’s unexpected effort at all. Noordscheschut’s otherwise reliable closing post went completely wrong, after which, to everyone’s surprise, the ball simply bounced into the goal. “I didn’t even realize it myself,” Boertien said immediately afterwards. “It was a very important moment for us. I’m very happy with it, especially because I never actually score.”
View of thunderstorm
The face of closing post Zinger, on the other hand, was still stormy long afterwards. “I didn’t see the ball coming,” Zinger said somberly. “I didn’t expect it at all. It was a catastrophic mistake on my part.”
It looked quite promising for Noordscheschut before halftime. During that period it was still the parent party. Thanks to the impulses of the lightning-fast Enrico Schonewille, who came over from VCG, Noordscheschut was constantly dangerous in an attacking sense. Schonewille created dangerous moments in front of LTC’s goal with, among other things, accurate set pieces. “I lacked the level a bit at VCG,” the frequently switching striker explained his transition to Noordscheschut.
After the break the battle fully ignited with LTC ultimately as the great triumphant. Coach Berry Zandink’s team had to overcome the first setback after four minutes. The breakthrough Asser striker Imre de Jonge made no mistake in finishing: 1-0. Not long afterwards, Boertien’s goal was in fact the final blow: 2-0. Imre de Jonge put an end to all uncertainty not long before the end by heading home a flawless cross from excellent substitute Patrick Meek: 3-0.
Despite frantic efforts by Noordscheschut, goalkeeper Jelle van der Veen of LTC kept his goal clean, ultimately resulting in a nice win for the Asser formation. For Zandink the grapes were quite sour. “This was our second consecutive defeat,” Zandink said somberly. “We put pressure after falling behind at too low a pace, but simply failed to score. LTC therefore rightly won.
Trainer Germain Beck from LTC was of course more pleased. “It was a great victory for us. At the moment we are just competing for the top position. We have to try to keep this going.”
