Thomas Müller has been working hard for FC Bayern for 14 years now – and still shows hardly any signs of fatigue. The former Munich player Roque Santa Cruz still believes that the veteran will soon have to face uncomfortable questions.
Compared to goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who Santa Cruz believes will still be at the top level for a few more years, Müller’s “position is much more complicated,” the still active 42-year-old said in an interview with “Sport Bild”: “Especially because his game is characterized by a lot of running.”
Müller has been a fixture at FC Bayern since the 2009/2010 season. His resume includes twelve championships, six cup victories and two Champions League titles.
Santa Cruz believes that the offensive all-rounder is currently “still important” for FC Bayern: “Because his quality means you always notice a difference when he is on the pitch – and because the dressing room benefits enormously from his success and experience can.”
As of now, Müller’s contract with the German record champions expires next June. It is unclear whether he will extend his contract again, end his career elsewhere or even stop altogether.
Most recently, the 34-year-old was once again a regular starter under coach Thomas Tuchel. “In Müller’s case, the decisive factor will be how he sees himself within the club: Does he want more playing minutes? Does he have patience if he doesn’t get them or does it frustrate him?” Santa Cruz interjected.
FC Bayern “at the forefront” in the Champions League
The former crowd favorite believes his former club can make a big splash this season. The ex-Paraguay international also sees Munich as the favorites in the premier class.
“They will 100 percent be at the forefront of the fight for the title! There is no club that wants Bayern as an opponent. They have class, incredible speed and with Harry Kane they are now even more dangerous to score,” emphasized Santa Cruz .
The attacker is totally enthusiastic about the new English star signing: “His career deserves the next step like Bayern – Kane deserves to become a champion with many titles. His character, as well as his quality, fits Bayern perfectly.”
