Defending champion ratiopharm Ulm has taken over the lead in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), at least for one night.
The German champions easily won against their “favorite opponent” Veolia Towers Hamburg 94:78 (54:37) and took their fourth victory on the fourth matchday. The surprise team Rasta Vechta can counterattack again on Sunday.
In Hamburg, Ulm started furiously, after the first quarter the score was 30:12 for the favorites. Led by top scorer Dakota Mathias (22 points), victory was never in serious danger.
Since Hamburg’s promotion in 2019, the Ulm team have won all eight games against the North Germans.
The Würzburg Baskets got their first home win in the third attempt. Against the Basketball Löwen Braunschweig, club of world champion Dennis Schröder, the score was 84:76 (46:41). The best thrower was Isaiah Washington with 19 points.
