BVB star Reus reveals: “Good contact” with national coach Nagelsmann

Marco Reus and the national team: It hasn’t really been a success story so far. Nevertheless, the BVB attacker dreams of taking part in the 2024 European Championship in Germany.

At the World Cup in Qatar at the end of 2022, Marco Reus was missing from the German squad due to an ankle injury. He watched the disaster in the desert from the couch at home.

In the podcast “Quarter Hour Football” by Kevin Großkreutz and Cornelius Küpper, the 34-year-old explained clearly: The 2024 European Championship at home is “definitely still an issue” for him.

“If the performance continues, you should never say never,” explained the BVB veteran. “I leave everything open to myself. Why should I say no when my body says yes?”

Reus is in good form this season. After a weak start in the opener against Cologne – head coach Edin Terzic then put him on the bench for two games – he fought his way back into the starting line-up with a goal after coming on as a substitute against Freiburg. Reus also scored against Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim, and he added a goal in the spectacle against Union. The BVB identification figure is once again one of the important performers in the team.

BVB professional Reus raves about Nagelsmann

It goes without saying that the dreams of a successful tournament with the national team are getting bigger. The relationship with the new national coach Julian Nagelsmann should not fail.

“I have good contact with Julian,” said Reus. It is important to stay in touch with him. “Julian is a very, very good coach. This has been proven in his previous positions,” enthused the BVB professional.

Marco Reus’s last game in the DFB team was on November 11, 2021. Against Liechtenstein he played 90 minutes, scored one goal and three assists. In his now long career, he only played in two tournaments for the DFB team. At the 2012 European Championships, his team failed in the semi-finals against Italy. In 2018 he was part of the team during the historic disaster in Russia.

Reus was repeatedly sidelined with injuries. In 2021 he canceled his participation in the European Championships after an exhausting season.
