The first third of the NFL season is over, but when it comes to fantasy football, the course is already being set for a successful outcome to the season. So that you are as well prepared for your matchup in week 7 as possible, here are the starts and sits for this weekend.
A little reminder: This week, six teams have a bye week: The Panthers, Jets, Texans, Titans, Cowboys and Bengals have this weekend off. You will certainly have had some players from these teams in your starting lineup. So make sure you react in a timely manner and adjust your team for Week 7.
Fantasy Football Week 7 Starts
QB Jordan Love vs. Denver Broncos
Before the Green Bay Packers entered their bye week in Week 6, Jordan Love had not only played his worst game of the season from a fantasy perspective. Love didn’t even contribute five points. In week 7, the quarterback is again a clear candidate for a “start” as he plays well-rested against the desolate Broncos defense.
QB Sam Howell vs. New York Giants
When choosing Sam Howell, I admittedly was guided by statistics. The Commanders playmaker throws over 35 passes per game and averages more than 250 yards and 1.5 touchdowns. He put more than 20 points on the board in four of six games. And since the Giants defense ultimately isn’t as good as the game against the Bills suggests, you probably won’t go wrong with Howell.
RB Raheem Mostert vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Drafting a Miami Dolphins running back is actually a no-brainer these days. Mostert has already scored eleven touchdowns this season, even though rookie De’Von Achane had even overtaken him at one point. With Achane still sidelined, Mostert remains the number one man in the Dolphins’ backfield and will deliver again this weekend, including against the Eagles.
RB Aaron Jones vs. Denver Broncos
I recommend that you field Aaron Jones – what a surprise – only on the condition that he can return from his thigh injury. This had been bothering him almost constantly since week 1. After the Packers’ bye week, however, they are happy that the running back can play again. And then the Packers will also use him to improve their recently lame offensive game.
WR Tyler Lockett vs. Arizona Cardinals
This “start” also depends at least a little on an injury, but not to Lockett himself. Rather, it is DK Metcalf’s hip that should be kept in mind as Lockett’s fantasy owner. If Metcalf isn’t at 100 percent or even “out,” Tyler Lockett will become even more important. The previous week he put 94 yards on the scoreboard. Now it’s against the Cardinals, who recently had big problems with Cooper Kupp and Ja’Marr Chase.
TE Kyle Pitts vs. Tampa Buccaneers
Atlanta coach Arthur Smith has long been criticized for not getting exceptional talent Kyle Pitts into the game. The tight end is now apparently an integral part of the Falcons’ playbook again and recorded 11 catches for 130 yards and a touchdown in the last two games. Even though the Bucs’ secondary will be stronger than the Commanders and Texans, Pitts will certainly get his targets again.
Sits in Fantasy Football Week 7
QB Kirk Cousins vs. San Francisco 49ers
The reasons for keeping Kirk Cousins on the bench are obvious. If this is not the case, be warned. Cousins was unable to build on his good first few weeks last Sunday without star receiver Justin Jefferson and now has to deal with an elite defense.
RB Gus Edwards vs. Detroit Lions
Anyone who had hoped that Gus Edwards would take over the running game of the Baltimore Ravens after the loss of JK Dobbins in week one has been disappointed so far. This most likely won’t get any better against a strong Lions defense. Gus Edwards is not the solution this weekend either.
RB Zack Moss vs. Cleveland Browns
The solution to many of the Colts’ problems in recent weeks has been running back Zack Moss, who even made Jonathan Taylor forgotten at times. And even in the presence of Taylor, Moss continued to score points. However, Moss will have an extremely difficult time against the Cleveland Browns, who have recently stopped the Niners’ offensive machine.
WR Michael Pittman Jr. vs. Cleveland Browns
We’ll stick with the tough matchup of the Colts offense against the strong Browns defense. After Michael Pittman Jr. delivered his best performance of the season last week, catching nine passes for 109 yards in the loss to the Jags, one might be tempted to put the wide receiver in the running. But it’s better to wait another week!
TE Sam LaPorta vs. Baltimore Ravens
Tight end Sam LaPorta went into the game in the Lions’ victory over the Bucs ailing and had little stake in his team’s success. The shooting star will once again have a difficult time against a strong defense from the Baltimore Ravens.
