Shock in Cologne training: Pentke’s injury is minor

Emergency medical intervention

An injury to substitute goalkeeper Philipp Pentke caused a shocking moment during training at 1. FC Köln, but it ended lightly. According to the club, Pentke slipped into a ground cover. According to media reports, he initially remained lying there with a loud scream.

Coach Steffen Baumgart interrupted the training, two emergency ambulances drove up and took the 38-year-old to a clinic to the encouraging applause of fans watching the session. “I’m incredibly sorry for the boy,” Baumgart told “Bild”: “But at least it now looks like it will probably only be a flesh wound. We hope that everything heals quickly and that nothing becomes infected.” The club confirmed in the afternoon that Pentke had not suffered any other injuries apart from the flesh wound under his right knee, which was immediately stitched up.
