Global payments and shopping service Klarna has announced the launch of new AI-powered products. The global payment network announced last week that twelve new products will improve the personalized shopping experience for customers.
A new function is the ‘Shopping Lens’, with which buyers can photograph a product and then be suggested purchase options for this or similar products. To do this, the shopping assistant uses artificial intelligence, which translates the photo into a search term. The ‘Shopping Lens’ is said to be able to visually identify over ten million items and is now available in Germany, the USA, Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark and Norway.
“Just as the Internet has given everyone access to information, AI enables everyone to benefit from personalized content and an in-depth store of knowledge. At Klarna, we use this to bridge the physical and digital worlds by connecting the way people get inspired with the way computers search. I am very proud that Klarna is leading this retail revolution,” said Sebastian Siemiatkowski, CEO and co-founder of Klarna.
Discovery Shopping Feed
The new tool is intended to help create a ‘discovery shopping feed’ in the Klarna app, which will be rolled out in the coming months. Klarna supplemented this feed at the beginning of October new functionsincluding a new dashboard and new search filters.
After a successful test phase in the USA, ‘shoppable videos’ are now being integrated into the app globally. “Shoppable Video combines the best of social, video and e-commerce,” the statement says. The videos show tutorials and reviews through to product presentations from brands.
Another new technology that connects brick-and-mortar and online retail is ‘in-store scanning’. Using a barcode function, customers can access the product information of an item. You can also use Klarna’s search and comparison tool to see whether the product is available cheaper online.
Additional features are also being introduced in the UK and US and will be rolled out to additional markets in the future, including cashback, buyer protection and express refunds. Klarna is used by 150 million consumers and 27 million app users worldwide.
