MP Kauthar Bouchallikht withdraws from the GroenLinks-PvdA candidate list

Kauthar Bouchallikht, currently Member of Parliament for GroenLinks, is withdrawing from the GroenLinks-PvdA candidate list for the upcoming elections. That’s what Bouchallikht writes on social media. The reason is the party’s position regarding the war between Israel and Hamas.

“This ‘war’ did not suddenly start, it has been going on for 75 years. And I consistently missed that context in last week’s statements. Also within my own party,” Bouchallikht writes. “Over the past week, I have had internal discussions about this several times within the group and shared with colleagues that I am missing this important part of the story.” She calls those conversations “not constructive.”

“Party democracy was hard to find at times,” said Bouchallikht. “This is no longer the party I decided to become an MP for, this is no longer the party I want to be an MP for.” GroenLinks faction leader Jesse Klaver writes on
