Djokovic, who faced the risk of not being able to participate in the Australian Open, where he won 9 championships because he did not disclose whether he had a new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine, had problems at the country border, despite receiving special permission from the tournament organizers.
According to reports in the Australian media, the 34-year-old tennis player, who arrived at Melbourne Airport, tried to enter the country on a visa that did not allow medical exemptions. Federal Border Forces then contacted the Victorian state administration, informing them that Djokovic’s team had made a mistake in the visa application.
Djokovic, who has 20 grand slam titles in his career, was questioned by border officials after the Victorian government refused to accept the visa, to present evidence supporting his immunization exemption.
It was claimed that Djokovic showed that he had Kovid-19 in the last 6 months as the reason for exemption, and that this may not be enough to enter the country.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said that Djokovic would not be treated differently if he could not document the grounds for medical exemption and that he would be sent home by the first plane.
The Australian Open will be held in Melbourne from 17-30 January.
