Star actor Michael Caine has confirmed that he will retire at the age of 90, reports The Guardian.
Last month, Caine said he was “kind of retired,” but now he’s made it official.
– I keep saying that I’m going to retire. Now I am, he told the BBC’s Today program.
Caine said he wanted to end his seven-decade film career on a high note. He is starring in a recent movie The Great Escaperbut mentions that it is unlikely that he will get any more leading roles in the future.
– I have thought that I have a film in which I have played the main role and received incredible reviews. What can I do to beat this?
– The only roles I’m likely to get now are 90-year-old men. They won’t be the main parts. 90-year-olds don’t have the main roles, but young handsome boys and girls. So I figured I might as well retire.
Caine’s acting career started already in the 1950s and lasted more than 70 years. During his career, he managed to act in more than 160 films. The British actor won two supporting Oscars in his career, for films Hannah and sisters (1986) and The Cider House Rules (1999).
Caine is remembered among other things by Christopher Nolan of the Batman films he directed, in which he played Alfred Pennyworth.
