Only two of four German duos reached the round of 16 at the Beach Volleyball World Cup in Mexico – the German champions Nils Ehlers/Clemens Wickler and Svenja Müller/Cinja Tillmann. Laura Ludwig/Louisa Lippmann and Karla Borger/Sandra Ittlinger were eliminated.
Ehlers and Wickler from ETV Hamburg won their opening duel in the knockout round against the Austrians Julian Hörl and Alexander Horst on Wednesday evening (CEST) with 2-0 (21:12, 21:17) and are still without losing a set. The only German men’s team clearly set the direction in the first round. With a 13:6 lead, we quickly won the set. Müller/Tillman, who like Ehlers/Wickler won the German championship title in Timmendorfer Strand, had more trouble, but also won in two sets: against the Spanish team Liliana Fernandez Steiner/Paula Soria Gutierrez, it was 22nd for the duo training in Hamburg :20 and 21:16.
For Ludwig/Lippmann from HSV, however, the intermediate round was surprisingly the final stop. The European Championship third-placed team lost 1:2 (21:19, 20:22, 8:15) to the experienced Brazilians Agatha Bednarczuk and Rebecca Silva.
