Only two of four German duos reached the round of 16 at the Beach Volleyball World Cup in Mexico – the German champions Nils Ehlers/Clemens Wickler and Svenja Müller/Cinja Tillmann. Laura Ludwig/Louisa Lippmann and Karla Borger/Sandra Ittlinger were eliminated.
Ehlers and Wickler from ETV Hamburg won their opening duel in the knockout round against the Austrians Julian Hörl and Alexander Horst on Wednesday evening (CEST) with 2-0 (21:12, 21:17) and are still without losing a set. The only German men’s team clearly set the direction in the first round. With a 13:6 lead, we quickly won the set. In set number two, the Austrians put up a little more resistance, but ultimately had no chance.
“Of course you want it to go so well. We were a bit nervous before the game because it was the first knockout game and you can’t afford any mistakes. It’s all the better that we made it to the round of 16.” , Ehlers told NDR after the success against the Austrians, who they had already beaten in Paris a few weeks ago.
Out for Ludwig/Lippmann and Ittlinger/Borger

In Hamburg, Ludwig/Lippmann were ranked 29th in the world rankings. still beaten smoothly in two sets.
Ittlinger/Borger missed a surprise against Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy. The duo training in Stuttgart put up a great fight with the Olympic silver medalists from Australia, but lost 0:2 (19:21, 23:25). The round of the best 16 is played on Thursday.
