Amsterdam removes Israeli flag and raises international peace flag

This morning the municipality hoisted the international flag for peace on the Stopera. The flag hangs as a statement of support for all the innocent victims who have fallen on both sides of the conflict between Hamas and Israel. The Israeli flag has been removed, but according to the municipality it would only hang for one day.

Yesterday the municipality raised the flag of Israel on the city hall. “Together with the residents of Amsterdam, the council is extremely affected by the brutal violence of Hamas against innocent civilians,” the municipality said about the decision to hoist the flag.

Today it is the flag for peace, a blue flag with a white dove with an olive branch in its mouth. In addition to the expression of support for the innocent victims caused by the conflict, the flag is also an expression of support from the municipality ‘to all Amsterdam residents who sympathize or are in fear and uncertainty due to the situation’.

The flag of Israel was raised for one day yesterday. The municipality often does this this way after events abroad. The peace flag will hang on the Stopera for the rest of the week as a show of support.
