NAC has apologized to FC Groningen and will take ‘appropriate measures’ against the supporter who unfairly treated Groningen player Kevin van Veen. The club from Breda reports this after further investigation into Friday’s match.
The match in the Kitchen Champion Division was temporarily stopped after Van Veen cheered provocatively after a goal and had plastic cups thrown at his head.
“I like emotion and drive, but there are grown men standing there and they wish my unborn daughter the k-word,” Van Veen later explained his action at ESPN . “I may have overreacted, but in a human way. There is a limit, even for a football player.”
Appropriate measures
After studying the images, NAC has come to the conclusion that “an individual briefly shouts something in the direction of two FC Groningen players”, which, according to the club from Breda, is a ‘possible reason’ for Van Veen’s frustration. Later in the match, when Van Veen was substituted, “an individual made a gesture towards the striker that went beyond all bounds.”
“NAC has identified the perpetrator and will take appropriate measures. This behavior has no place in our stadium. We have also apologized to FC Groningen for this,” said NAC. “Contrary to what was reported in some media, Van Veen’s dissatisfaction concerns an individual action by two supporters.”
