Hundreds of people participate in a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Rotterdam | Israel and Hamas at war

Hundreds of people in Rotterdam express support for the Palestinian resistance in Israel. The demonstration started around 2 p.m. on the square in front of Rotterdam Central Station, after which they walked via the Coolsingel to the Erasmus Bridge.

“Free Palestine, free Palestine and revolution!” is heard just after two o’clock on Sunday when about a hundred activists have gathered in front of Central Station. Many Palestinian flags, but the Turkish version can also often be seen.

The demonstration was set up by Samidoun, a Palestinian freedom organization. The aim, according to one of the spokespersons, is to support the Palestinian people. “This is self-defense,” a Rotterdam activist explains the Palestinian actions.

“The Palestinians have the right to this,” Sara adds on behalf of Samidoun. “We must stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and continue to oppose imperialists and Zionists.”

Israel and Hamas have been at war since Saturday. After a major surprise attack by Hamas fighters, there are also clashes on Sunday. At least 600 Israelis have been killed so far. At least 313 Palestinians have died in Israeli retaliation in the Gaza Strip, including 20 children.

Solidarity with the Palestinian people

Thomas Hartman is the last to take the microphone on Stationsplein. “Fight against the Netherlands, the Palestinian resistance will also increase. We no longer accept a racist two-state solution,” the action leader said. “From the river to the sea we want a liberated Palestine.”

Then the parade starts from Stationsplein towards Erasmus Bridge. “Don’t be intimidated by the police,” Hartman tells the now considerably grown group of activists. He is satisfied with the turnout. “Know that there are 1 million Palestinians living in the Netherlands, they will be moved. We are not looking for trouble, we want to make our voice heard.”
