After a goal festival against 1. FC Nürnberg, FC St. Pauli is at the top of the table in the 2nd league and is still leaving its city rivals Hamburger SV behind.

Coach Fabian Hürzeler’s team defeated Nuremberg 5-1 (1-1) at Millerntor on Saturday evening. Even after nine games this season, St. Pauli was still not behind for 810 minutes.

The superior hosts got off to a lightning start in both halves. Elias Saad (4th) and Johannes Eggestein (49th), who also made it 3-1 seven minutes later, each gave St. Pauli the lead.

Goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj’s serious mistake before Kanji Okunuki made it 1-1 (24′) didn’t hurt either: Vasilj had played the ball into the opponent’s foot. Etienne Amenyido (90.+3) and Connor Metcalfe (90.+5) played a good game to celebrate the shooting.

St. Pauli showed enthusiasm, resilience and played like a top team. Okunuki’s goal remained Nuremberg’s only opportunity for a long time. The 3-1 was preceded by a very determined attack over several stations, Eggestein finishing with his left hand from eleven meters in front of 29,546 spectators.

FCN remains in the middle of the table with twelve points. Lukas Schimmeler (70th) could have brought the guests back into the game, but he failed to hit the crossbar.
