The Scottish football record champions Glasgow Rangers have reacted to the false start to the season and fired team manager Michael Beale.
After the 1:3 home defeat against FC Aberdeen, Rangers are already seven points behind their arch and city rivals Celtic in the league. Experienced midfielder Steven Davis takes on the role of interim coach.
Beale already missed qualification for the Champions League with Rangers in the play-offs against PSV Eindhoven in August. The 43-year-old took over from Giovanni van Bronckhorst last November, but he was unable to prevent Celtic from winning the treble of domestic trophies last season.
“It is clear that the results have fallen far short of the expectations of the board, Michael and our fans,” said Rangers chairman John Bennett: “The search for a new manager is already underway.”
