Hannover 96 beats SV Wehen and climbs to 2nd place – Kiel wins at KSC

BTSV loses in Rostock

With a home win, Hannover 96 has moved into second place in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 2-0 (1-0) win against newly promoted SV Wehen Wiesbaden on Saturday, Havard Nielsen (11th minute) and Derrick Köhn (74th) scored 96.

The Lower Saxony team relied on possession of the ball and were able to celebrate early. Striker Nielsen headed in from Phil Neumann’s cross to take the lead. On the other side, 96 keeper Ron-Robert Zieler was just able to defuse a header from Ivan Prtajin (12th) with a brilliant save. Shortly afterwards, Prtajin was injured without any involvement of an opponent and had to leave the field. A second goal by the striker duo Nielsen and Cedrik Teuchert (30th) did not count because Teuchert was offside.

The Lower Saxony team continued to dominate the game in the second half, with Jannik Dehm (52′) putting his shot over the goal from a tight angle. Then Derrick Köhn rewarded the efforts. After an assist from Louis Schaub, the winger maneuvered the ball through the legs of Wiesbaden keeper Florian Stritzel to make it 2-0.

KSC continues negative trend against Holstein Kiel

The negative trend of the highly traded Karlsruher SC has worsened. The Baden team lost 0:2 (0:2) against Holstein Kiel and had to accept their fourth winless game in a row. Benedikt Pichler (24th minute) and Tom Rothe (27th) took advantage of the weaknesses of the KSC defense.

In a weak phase for KSC, Steven Skrzybski could have given the guests a greater lead before the break, but failed with a hand penalty (34th). Coach Marcel Rapp’s team deserved to win and, after two previous defeats, improved to third place, at least temporarily. As 14th in the table, KSC is only one point ahead of the relegation zone. Coach Christian Eichner’s team initially dominated the game in front of 21,992 spectators, but failed to reward themselves in the opening minutes with chances from Lars Stindl and Marvin Wanitzek.

The surprising 0:1 unsettled the people of Baden and they seemed temporarily disoriented. The only 18-year-old defender Rothe was completely free when he scored his header to make it 0-2 just three minutes after conceding the first goal. After the break, the Baden team tried hard, but it was rarely dangerous. Not enough was achieved on the offensive either.

Van der Werff scores with his head: Rostock beats BTSV 1-0

Coach Jens Härtel suffered a defeat on his return to the Ostseestadion. His former club Hansa Rostock beat his new club Eintracht Braunschweig 1-0 (0-0). Jasper van der Werff scored the winning goal in front of the 25,600 spectators. The defender worked his way up from a corner and headed the ball into the net to make it 1-0 in the 87th minute.

The hosts set the tone from the start, creating gaps in the visitors’ defense with precise passes and creating chances. But Kevin Schumacher (5th) and Juan Perea (15th) completed their actions too hastily and overlooked their better-positioned teammates. Eintracht defended passionately and launched a few relief attacks. Robin Krauße (33rd) and Florian Krüger (36th) missed the goal. On the other hand, Rostock remained dangerous, but gave away the long overdue lead through Perea (38th) and Damian Roßbach (40th).

In the second half, the Braunschweig team dared to move forward more courageously. Sebastian Griesbeck (56th) and Krüger (65th) missed the best opportunities. Hansa acted too complicated for a long time. As both teams settled for a goalless draw, van der Werff headed Hansa into luck.
