Several accidents have occurred on the A9 between Diemen and Amstelveen at the Holendrecht junction and between Alkmaar and Amstelveen at the Beverwijk and Rottepolderplein junctions. This has slowed down traffic considerably.
The accident at the Beverwijk and Rottepolderplein junctions closed two lanes, delaying traffic for more than an hour, the ANWB reports. Traffic is less affected by traffic jams between Diemen and Amstelveen, where only a few minutes of delay have been reported.
Major collision
According to a police spokesperson, a ‘major collision’ took place at 7.15 am near Spaarndam. This resulted in several rear-end collisions. Three hundred meters behind the first collision, another car crashed into its predecessor, a total of three separate collisions.
“There was a traffic jam behind the collision, which is quite abrupt and there are always people who brake too late,” said the spokesperson. A total of ten vehicles crashed into each other. Four were so damaged that they were towed away by a salvage company. No one had to go to the hospital.
Salvage work
Those on their way to The Hague and Utrecht are advised to follow the N8, A8, A10 and A4 from the Uitgeest exit. Rijkswaterstaat has now started recovery work and expects both incidents to be dealt with around 8.45 am. Until then, extra travel time must be taken into account.
