The Netherlands wakes up with a start on this peaceful Sunday morning. Angela de Jong watched TV last night and she was immediately not happy at all. And now Paul, Rob and Rachel are being punished.
If Angela de Jong has been watching NPO documentaries all evening, you can skip her column the next day. After all, she is at her best when she plays the VIP crusher. The star stomper. The AD tiger shark. And her fans are well served today, because Angela goes all out with Paul de Leeuw and his new show Hotel Hollandia.
Scathing reviews
Because Paul ruined it… He benefited from publicity because of his much-discussed performance in the talk show Business Class. Many people found it commendable how he dealt with Harry Mens’ tough questions. There were many curious viewers in front of the TV last night: 1.1 million. And then? Then you invite Rob Kemps and Rachel Hazes.
Rob and Rachel are among the celebrities who are vomited on the most and this happens en masse on social media. Not only their presence, but also the ‘substandard’ satire section in the show is destroyed. “X is receiving scathing criticism. It is difficult to find a positive response,” writes ratings hooligan Tina Nijkamp.

The most spicy, however, is Angela de Jong’s column. He has her AD column today with the steam coming out of my ears. “An insult to the viewer,” she calls Paul’s program. “If I were Paul de Leeuw, I wouldn’t dare show myself outside for a while. They could have (…) spared the viewer this misery!”
The Kopspijkers-like cabaret was ‘bland’, ‘poor’ and ‘predictable’, says Angela. And the interview with Rob Kemps? “Meaningless,” she sneers. It is a painful sign that Rob’s alleged talent has been greatly inflated: nowadays no one knows what he does anymore and he only makes the news as a backstabber.

Who will be hit the hardest by Angela? The cashier from Mijdrecht: the scheming widow Rachel Hazes. For a moment, the opinion diva thought she was looking at an imitation: “The Rotterdam accent was well done and the make-up artist on duty had gone wild with RAL color 8016 (mahogany brown).”
Nothing could be further from the truth: it was the real Rachel. And she made a tasteless comment about daughter Roxeanne. “Paul gave her ample opportunity to kick her children. She made two jokes about them being so low to the ground that I’m not even going to repeat them here.”
“He doesn’t deserve them!”
In fact, Paul immediately disqualified himself, Angela thinks. “If you have to rely on it as a new satirical program and talk show, then you don’t want viewers. No, let me put it differently: then you don’t deserve them.”
Angela also gives the editorial team a high grade, because really? Did anyone think it was a good idea to invite Rachel to the premiere? “Or they couldn’t get anyone else. I don’t know what’s worse…”
