It’s been over half a century since David Bowie reinvented himself and rock music with his album “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars”. After a series of highly acclaimed but rather commercially unsuccessful albums, the artist finally made a breakthrough with his alter ego Ziggy Stardust. Today the work is considered a classic of glam rock and inspired artists such as Madonna, Harry Styles and Jay-Z.

However, this legendary rise would not have been possible without the sound engineer in the background: Ken Scott, who also sat behind the controls for the Beatles, Supertramp and Duran Duran. Born in London in 1947, few had such an influence on the rock sound of the ’70s and ’80s.

We spoke to Ken Scott about 50 years of Ziggy Stardust, what it takes to produce with so many greats, and what he thinks of today’s music industry.
