Norway’s national coach Berge stops

Oslo (AP) – Norway’s national handball coach Christian Berge is voluntarily resigning after eight years.

The former Bundesliga professional at SG Flensburg-Handewitt is terminating his contract, which runs until 2025, and wants to work as a club coach again in the future. This was announced by the Norwegian association. The 48-year-old Berge had led the team around superstar Sander Sagosen to the top of the world in recent years and to their greatest successes to date. In 2017 and 2019 there was silver at the World Championships and bronze in 2020 at the European Championships.

Berge will be in charge of Norway’s selection for the last time at the Golden League tournament in Denmark in mid-March. A successor should be found by autumn. Norway had recently secured a direct ticket for the 2023 World Cup in Poland and Sweden with fifth place at the European Championship.
