British retailers were able to increase their sales slightly in August. Compared to the previous month, sales rose by 0.4 percent, as the ONS statistics office announced on Friday in London.

Analysts had expected an average increase of 0.5 percent. However, the latest increase follows a significant 1.1 percent decline in July.

In a three-month comparison up to August, sales increased by 0.3 percent. (dpa)
