The beginnings of hip hop are dated August 11, 1973. Kool DJ Herc is said to have thrown a birthday party called “Back to School Jam” for his little sister in the Bronx fifty years ago, thereby initiating the birth of the genre.
Universal Music is honoring the history of the genre not only in a “Dedicated to Hip-Hop” edition of its annual Universal Inside conference, but also with the album “Hip-Hop At Fifty (50 Years of Hip-Hop)”. It contains many hits from the early years of the genre.
