Only Terim with better editing
Stefan Kuntz is no longer the national coach of Türkiye. This is reported by the Turkish news agency “DHA” on Sunday. Accordingly, the 60-year-old was informed in a telephone conversation with TFF officials that his term of office would end after almost exactly two years.
Kuntz, who had signed until 2024, took over the national team on September 19, 2021 and has since achieved twelve wins and an average of 1.95 points in 20 games, which is only bettered by coaching legend Fatih Terim with his fourth term in office from 2013 to 2017. Despite the yield, Kuntz was often criticized. Last year the mood turned against the Saarlander and in June there were first reports that he could be replaced by Trabzonspor’s master maker Abdullah Avci.

After the 1-1 draw against Armenia in the European Championship qualification and the friendly defeat against Japan (2-4), the topic came up again. In the course of this, association president Mehmet Büyükeksi gave Kuntz a job guarantee and said that it was not right to talk about the coach at the moment, instead they would continue on the common path. Kuntz will be in charge of the team against Croatia and Latvia at least in October, it was said.
He “doesn’t understand the pessimism in Turkey at the moment. Our situation in the group is still very good. It is up to us to take part in the European Championships and we will take part in the tournament,” Kuntz recently responded to the criticism. His name was also mentioned for the DFB job, so he was “not such a bad coach,” he also said.
