Michael van Gerwen won the World Series of Darts Finals on Sunday evening at the AFAS Live in Amsterdam. In the final, the Vlijmen native was much too strong for Englishman Nathan Aspinall: 11-4. It is the fifth time that Van Gerwen has won the tournament.
By the way, it would have made little difference if Van Gerwen would not have been in the final at all. In the semi-finals, Mighty Mike escaped three match darts against another Englishman, Luke Humphries.
Nine-darter
Yet Van Gerwen showed that he was in top form, especially at the beginning of that match. In fact, in the second leg he hit a nine-darter. The only downside: due to a lagging scoreboard, part of the audience did not realize that he threw the decisive darts for the perfect leg.
Van Gerwen also won the prestigious tournament in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019.
