Former star sounds the alarm after the Leverkusen game

In the high-class 2-2 draw between FC Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen, the home team revealed defensive problems. Former Munich resident Holger Badstuber puts his finger in the wound.

Time and time again, FC Bayern’s back line was relatively easily undermined by the Werkself, and the distances between the central and full-backs were often incorrect.

Holger Badstuber was particularly critical of the performance of new signing Konrad Laimer, who helped out on the right back. “The right-back position remains a major construction site,” wrote the former DFB national player in his “web.de” column.

The 34-year-old added: “Laimer can play that, but he has the nature of a midfielder. There is a lack of a real right-back in the squad. That is a serious problem.”

At RB Leipzig, the Austrian was previously mainly used in the control center, but coach Thomas Tuchel sees him further back.

Badstuber: FC Bayern “still has a lot to work on”

Badstuber recognized further deficits at FC Bayern in the top game. “Especially against teams that combine so brilliantly through the middle like Leverkusen, it becomes equally obvious that a static six is still urgently needed,” he emphasized.

As in the Supercup against RB Leipzig (0:3), the Munich team “factually speaking” did not defend well. Badstuber’s conclusion: “The squad is not only too thin in terms of quantity, but also in terms of quality. Improvements definitely need to be made in the winter.”

In its current state, FC Bayern cannot “put its stamp on” or “dominate” strong opponents, the ex-professional noted: “The whole thing is not well-rounded, defensive strength and, above all, the connection on the pitch are a matter of course not there.”

In Badstuber’s opinion, the German industry leader “still has a lot to work on.”
