After Arsenal’s Pépé, Trabzonspor also brings in Southampton’s Onuachu

Trabzonspor is particularly active in the last days of the Turkish transfer window, which closes on September 15th: after the €4.4 million signing of Batista Mendy (23, Angers) and the free transfer signing of Nicolas Pépé (28, Arsenal). The 2022 champions are also strengthening themselves with Paul Onuachu (29) from Premier League relegated Southampton.

Videos on social media show the 2.01 meter tall center forward on his arrival in Turkey surrounded by fans with a Trabzonspor scarf. Onuachu moved from KRC Genk to the “Saints” for 18 million euros on Deadline Day of the 2023 winter transfer window, where he remained goalless in the second half of the season. According to reports, he is signing a loan contract in Trabzon until June 30, 2024.

Thanks to the additions of Mendy, Pépé and Onuachu, Trabzonspor increased its squad value from 93.6 million to 127.6 million euros within a few days. Pépé with a market value of 18 million euros and Onuachu with 13 million euros are now the most valuable players in coach Nenad Bjelica’s squad, who has been in office since April 2023.

Update: The Pépé transfer is official. The attacker will receive a one-year contract, a salary of 1.7 million euros and 1.6 million euros for his signature.

Onuachu becomes Trabzonspor’s 14th signing of the summer – 11.4 million euros were paid in transfers and loan fees for the previous newcomers, five of whom came on a free transfer. The club from the city with a population of 800,000 had a mixed start to the season (in the Süper Lig table) with two wins and two defeats.
