Harri Heliövaara has won the US Open mixed doubles tournament over Kazakhstan Anna Danilina with.
The pair overthrew the US Jessica Pegula and Austin Krajic too in the final 6–3, 6–4.
The championship is the most significant achievement of Heliövaara’s career. He receives the biggest prize pool of his life from the tournament victory.
The winning couple will share 170,000 dollars, or about 159,000 euros. The Finnish player has earned more than one million euros in prize money in his career.
Heliövaara is the only Finnish grand slam winner in tennis Henri Kontinen in addition. Kontinen and Heather Watson won the Wimbledon mixed doubles in the summer of 2016.
Heliövaara was hit hard in the final match. The opponent was unable to break even one of his serving moves.
After the match, the Finnish star sent emotional greetings to his family.
– Thanks to my wife Sini, our 2-year-old daughter and our 6-week-old son, who came all the way to New York for this, Heliövaara said.
– We have been here in New York for a long time, almost three weeks, but it was worth every minute. It’s great to lift the trophy. Thanks everyone and see you next year!
