BK Vrouwensjouwen introduces fun sports in Dentergem

The sport or game is making its first appearance in Belgium. Its origins are in Finland and internationally it is known as ‘WifeCarrying’. In Dentergem, the duos complete a course of 250 meters on which they encounter one water obstacle and two dry obstacles. The team that sets the fastest time will be crowned Belgian champion. Finnish rules stipulate that men can also sit on the back or carry women. Yet it is the men who do the work in Dentergem.

Gaming fun

The local association Poaldorppekkers is trying to bring some life to the municipality with this and other initiatives. Gaming fun comes first. The winners can undoubtedly drink to their victory. They receive the woman’s body weight on the back in beer. They also qualify for the world championships in Finland. Children brought their cuddly toys on Saturday to star in their competition, the Teddy Bear Carrying Race.
