Brightly colored jacket, white sneakers (Sketchers), trousers. Franziska Giffey (45, SPD) opens a new style book. The formal Red Town Hall costume often stays in the closet. The new job as Senator for Economic Affairs also entails that.
During her three-day business trip to Jakarta (until Friday) it is of course also about representation – there you could at least see comfortable ballerinas from the new casual look.

The frequent appearance in Berlin in sneakers, why? Giffey to BZ: “Of course you are more flexible. You can sit down differently, more casually. The job involves casual occasions.” Opening a solar system – don’t wear high heels.
Important to her: “That you dress appropriately for the occasion and the expectations of the people. And remember that at any point in time you are representing a political office, the state. Even after work.” And of course she also loves clothes. “I think it’s important not to give yourself away.”
An outfit professional is Stefan Franzke (53), head of Berlin-Partner: “In the last ten years, a lot has happened. Casual Friday meant a blue suit, white shirt, no tie and no leather shoes. Now it’s jeans and t-shirts. Even in real estate, where the dress code is the highest.”
