AZ talents to Argentina for unique final: “30,000 tickets sold”

This Saturday, the Under 19s of AZ will be in the final of the Intercontinental Cup, the world cup for club teams. In this, the Alkmaar team will compete against Boca Juniors from Buenos Aires in Argentina.

Because AZ ended season won the prestigious Youth League, it can now play against the champion of South America: Boca Juniors. The backdrop for the spectacle is the legendary La Bombonera stadium in the Argentine capital. “This is so special. It just gives you goosebumps. When you see the images of how those supporters can rage there, then we only want one thing and that is to go to Argentina and really do something together there,” says trainer Jan Sierksma.

Midfielder Lewis Schouten looks forward to the potential cauldron and imagines that the Argentinian peers will throw all their irons into the fire. “They will do everything they can to win. Squeeze. Stand on your toes. Maybe they will bite like Luis Suarez.”

The game between AZ and Boca Juniors starts next Saturday at 9 p.m.
