Tooske Ragas has caught his breath live on television. She’s had a turbulent weekend because her husband smashed the ladder to death. “Shit the crap out of me.”
It’s not all good for Bastiaan Ragas: the actor hits the headlines in a negative way twice in a row. The last time was in April, when Marc-Marie Huijbregts accused him of alcoholism, and now it’s because of the fall of a staircase. He made a death thump in his own backyard on Saturday.
Toosh shocked
His wife Tooske Ragas had to go in last night Show news really take a breather. “Before you start talking about Thijs Römer: how is your husband? That you’re here!”, says colleague Evert Santegoeds.
Tooske then pours out her heart. “Eh, today is a little less than yesterday. That sounds crazy. My husband is yesterday… We had a sweet 16 party for our eldest daughter Helena yesterday and we were setting everything up and he climbs up a ladder to hang a hook at the top of a pole with those cute lights.”
‘Fuck me the hell’
That didn’t go well. “That ladder isn’t properly secured – it’s real slapstick stuff if it weren’t so horrifying – and it falls right back. I was standing next to it, I saw him fall and I was still thinking as he fell: is there anything I can do now to prevent him from falling hard backwards? Well no. Poof! I was really shocked.”
Has Bastiaan been taken to hospital by ambulance? No, not quite yet. “We did go to the emergency room. I thought: I’ll call 911 and then he yelled: ‘No!’ It is OK. Nine stitches, everything black and blue, today nauseated, pain in his head and I don’t know what, but it will be fine.”
Three meters
How high was Bastiaan actually on that ladder? “His head was really at least three meters from the ground.”
So it didn’t matter much at all. “We just shouted all day: ‘Guys, this could have turned out very differently.’”
