French Open finalist Karolina Muchova became the first tennis player to reach the quarterfinals at the US Open on Sunday (September 3rd, 2023).
The 27-year-old Czech defeated Wang Xinyu in the round of the top 16 on Sunday in 2:34 hours 6:3, 5:7, 6:1. The Chinese was surprisingly in New York for the first time ever in a Grand Slam round of 16.
“Glad It’s Over”
Muchova gave up a set for the first time in the tournament. “I’m glad it’s over. It’s quite warm today”, said the world ranking tenth at more than 30 degrees. Muchova now meets the winner of the match between Swiss Olympic champion Belinda Bencic and Sorana Cirstea from Romania.
