“He has potential”
Union Berlin can no longer plan for the 19-year-old offensive talent Malick Sanogo in their own offspring due to age. In the professional team of the “Iron”, however, the competition is too big for the striker. Now Sanogo is moving to 1. FC Nürnberg, where, unlike in Köpenick, there is a second team or U23. “We hope that he can exploit the potential he undoubtedly has in Nuremberg and wish him all the best for the future,” said Managing Director Oliver Ruhnert.
“We are very happy that Malick is coming to the Valznerweiher,” said Michael Wiesinger, head of the next generation, from Nuremberg. With the “Club”, Sanogo can take the next step in the men’s regional league in the future. Wiesinger says: “He is a young, talented player and was able to draw attention to himself with his excellent performances.” In the Unioner U19s, Sanogo scored more goals than games last season and took the top scorer in the North/Northeast season.
The American, who was born in New York City, came to FC Union through the youth teams at Werder Bremen and Energie Cottbus in 2018 and scored 30 goals in 25 appearances in the U17 Bundesliga (22 of his own). In the U19s there are also 22 goals and six assists in 33 appearances over two seasons.
