On Wednesday it still sounded that suitable student transport had not yet been arranged for 99 students in special education. The goal is to get students to school within 90 minutes. Almost 45,000 students use collective transport.

In the meantime, “everything has been resolved”, said the spokeswoman for De Lijn at the start of the new school year. “We are now even arranging additional journeys for students who enroll last minute in special education.”

De Lijn is still struggling with staff shortages, as a result of which a number of regular journeys across Flanders will be deleted from the timetable until the end of the year. De Lijn is still looking for almost 250 drivers and 10 to 30 technicians, says Van der Sype.
