Lynyrd Skynyrd’s album “FYFTY” will be available as a 4CD anniversary box edition on October 13th. The set includes 50 titles that summarize the career of the US Southerners.
From their beginnings in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, through the 70’s hits to the last couple of years, there’s something from every stage of the band’s history. Also included: an exclusive recording of “Gimme Three Steps”, recorded in November 2022 during guitarist Gary Rossington’s final performance. The founding member died in spring 2023.
Role model Ronnie Van Zant
“We really just observe what’s going on around us – and then write songs that people can relate to,” Rossington wrote before his death in the liner notes accompanying the box set. “That has always been our approach. We copied that from Ronnie [Van Zant]; he was just unbelievably good at grabbing a topic and then turning it into a cool story in a way that people could relate to. We’re really just trying to continue that approach.”
“FYFTY” will be released in classic vinyl format (12×12 inches), complete with a 40-page booklet. Including: an introduction by Cameron Crowe, friend and collaborator of the band, full liner notes, a detailed track-by-track by US journalist Gary Graff and a selection of previously unpublished photos of the band over the past 50 years.
