At the proposal of Minister Bruins Slot of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK), the Council of Ministers has approved the appointment of a new chairman and members of the Dutch Sign Language Advisory Board. The Dutch Sign Language Recognition Act came into force on 1 July 2021, which also established the Dutch Sign Language Advisory Board.

The new members are Mr Krijger, Mr Roelofsen and Mrs Wijnen. Mrs. Oyserman, like Mr. Bloem, was already a member, but has now also been appointed chairman.

The full advisory board is composed as follows:

  • Ms J. Oyserman (Joni), also chairperson
  • Mr. T. Bloem (Tony)
  • Mr. M. Krijger (Marijn)
  • Dr. F. Roelofsen (Floris)
  • Mrs I. Wines (Iris)

Chairman Oyserman: “The Dutch Sign Language Advisory Board was founded in 2022 and has been designed from the start by dedicated people. The advisory board will carefully develop the mission and vision in the coming period. Dutch Sign Language plays a central role in all our advice for ensuring accessibility for all deaf and hard-of-hearing sign speakers.”

The new members of the Advisory Board have been appointed with retroactive effect from 1 July 2023 for a term of four years. The Dutch Sign Language Advisory Board provides solicited and unsolicited advice to the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations on promoting the use of Dutch sign language in society. The aim is to make society as accessible as possible for sign language users. These are deaf people, but also suddenly deaf people, parents of deaf children and professionals who use the Dutch sign language.
