People were again injured in assaults in the center of Meppel last weekend. Police are investigating whether there is a connection to previous assaults this summer.
In the night from Saturday to Sunday it was hit again, the community police officer reports on Instagram. Two assaults took place between 03:40 and 04:00. “The first incident, at Prinsenplein, started with a fight in front of a restaurant around 03.40. There a woman was insulted and abused by a man. The man left with a number of others in the direction of Prinsengracht,” the officer reports.
The second assault took place on the Prinsengracht. “Two or three suspects assaulted a man here,” the officer writes. “It seems that in part the same persons are involved in both incidents.”
No arrests have yet been made for the recent violence. The police are investigating a connection with assaults on July 8 and 16, in which someone was also injured on both occasions. Arrests were made for this. Four people in their twenties from Meppel were arrested for kicking a 32-year-old man. Another Meppeler was arrested for nightlife violence on July 16. He was previously arrested for an incident in March. All suspects are at large.
