A fire broke out in an apartment complex on Beatrixlaan in Kaag, South Holland, on Sunday evening. Thirty people have been removed from their apartments, according to the Hollands Midden Safety Region, which is still looking for a missing person.
The people from the complex are being accommodated in a building of a sailing school on the island, the security region reports.
According to a spokesperson for the fire service, it concerns a spreading fire in at least two apartments. Earlier, the fire service reported that there may be casualties.
Weather conditions
The weather conditions complicate the deployment of the fire brigade, who indicate that saving people has priority. The village is located on the Kagereiland, which means that support for the fire brigade has to come via a ferry.
The Hollands Midden safety region asks bystanders to stay out of the smoke and to give the emergency services “more space”. “We are working hard.”
According to Omroep West, it concerns ten apartments with a restaurant underneath.
