For a good flow in summer: Here are ten really good songs about sea and water.
The summer months can often be unforgiving when it comes to heat. Reason enough to use water-based tracks to cool off a bit in the sun.
1. AnnenMayKantereit – “3 days by the sea” (2023)
With his characteristically rough voice, Henning May hits just the right vibe. This track is for all those who like to go to the sea when they are stressed and uneasy.
2. The National – “Sea of Love” (2013)
The sea as a metaphor for love: “Sea of Love” is about a man who jumps head over heels into love as if it were the sea. A perfect song for indie rock lovers and also a nice performance at this oppressive time.
3. Daughter – “Shallows” (2013)
For those who want to treat themselves to quieter tunes for the time by the water – here you go: “Let the water rise / Let the ground crack / Let me fall inside / Lying on my back / Lying on my back”.
4. Loudon Wainwright III – “The Swimming Song” (1973)
With a simple melody and banjo accompaniment, this song from the 70s is a perfect catchy tune. The lyrics come straight from the heart, because swimming is and was the folk rocker’s favorite sport.
5. AURORA – “BLACK WATER LILIES” (2016)
This song from the art-pop artist’s debut studio album is based on a dream in which she is being guided through a fantastic underwater world by a strange hand. Make up your own mind here:
6. PJ Harvey – “Water” (1992)
With religious references, subtle metaphors, and offbeat melodies, “Water” is one of those tracks that wouldn’t necessarily count as one of PJ Harvey’s most well-known tracks. But it definitely shouldn’t be missing from this list of cool-down songs.
7. Mr Probz – Waves (2013)
Most will probably know this song from the Robin Schulz radio hit remix, but don’t underestimate the Mr. Probz original either.
8. Foo Fighters – “I Am A River” (2014)
This seven-minute rock ballad is based on “Minetta Creek,” a flowing body of water that meanders beneath the city of New York. Dave Grohl was very taken with the idea that something so old could exist beneath a city so new – and that something like that might connect us as people.
9. BTS – “바다 (Sea)” (2017)
There’s also something to cool down for the K-Pop fans: This song was a hidden track on the extended play of LOVE YOURSELF: HER, the K-Pop sensation BTS. Except for YouTube, the song can only be found on the physical copies of the mini-album.
10. THE ANXIETY – “Poolside” (2020)
Fusing hip-hop beats with R’n’B vocals, this track by Willow Smith and Tyler Cole’s joint project is an ideal track for all lovers of the alternative genre.
